The Manito Historical
Society is working on many projects for this coming year.
We had a successful Genealogy Workshop in January. A
power point presentation was made of Historic people and
places in Manito’s Past to entertain the attendees of the
Sesquicentennial Inaugural Ball held February 16th.
Our Sesquicentennial History book is complete and for
sale, and we have a new roof on the Old Red School House.
We have also been displaying various Manito pictures and
memorabilia at the Forman Valley Library.
We are now putting
time and energy into planning our 2nd Annual
Antique Appraisal that will be held April 19th,
at Willet’s Winery in Manito. We are going to have a
similar format this year and expand into the Workshop for
more space. In May we have invited the Midwest Central 5th
grade to come to experience school in the mid 1800’s at
the Old Red School House. We will provide activities,
t-shirts, lunch and a good “old fashioned” fun day. In
June we are planning our Home tour in conjunction with the
Garden Thyme Gals Bridal Show. Our home tour will be a
progressive reception to follow the bridal show. We will
have homes from past to present open to tour. At the
Popcorn Festival we will offer a Historic Trolley Tour
which will add excitement to our Sesquicentennial Year.
The Manito Historical Society has been very active and
welcomes new members. Our next meeting will be on March
10th at 6:30 at the Forman Valley Library.
